A healthy lifestyle is a cornerstone of well being, therefore, has an effect on our work performance. Motiviti is an application that keeps employees motivated and healthy in the long term and also provides an opportunity for the employer to reward an active lifestyle.
The application design was made for the MOME Product Designer course in December 2019.

From the employee's perspective, health is everything. Tons of studies have shown us that mental and physical performance is deeply connected. Furthermore, these activities make us happier.
As you may guess - this fact is also important from the employer's point of view. A happy and healthy team member is more effective and their effort may result in a higher-quality output.
Based on that our hypothesis was that both employees and employers are motivated to initiate and maintain healthy activities as part of the company culture. They in need of a platform that helps them to organize those kinds of activities in a simple way.
We had to validate our hypothesis via discovery interviews. Through those interviews, we've learned a lot about the mindset and problems of employees and employers. Here are some proper quotes from our interview subjects that helped us turn the project in the right direction:
"The idea was that whoever needs a workout buddy, we’ll organize it internally. We had a separate slack channel for this, but it soon became inactive."
"I don’t have half a day a week to spare on organizing company activities, but there is a clear need for them indeed."
"When I sit a lot, my back hurts, but I don't have time to do much about it. However, I'm glad to start my day with spinal exercises in the office. We have something like this several times a month."
We have synthesized the interview results into three key findings where we felt we could help. These served as the backbone of the application:
Forum
A friendly space, a platform where employees can vote on health-related company activities and share their thoughts. This is the gap between the employer and their staff, a non-work related communication channel.
Community
Sport-related activities are hard to maintain especially when you go about it alone. They are simply more fun to do with your colleagues and friends. This connects people in non-work-related ways.
Time
Typically, there are only a few people in a company who organize all community activities and they usually have other tasks to do as well. We must help them with a quick and smooth process.
At this point, we were able to start to develop the core feature set of our product. We have started with rough sketches that ended up in high fidelity Figma prototype.
The usability tests have their ups and downs. We have successfully validated some of the features and we had to make major and minor modifications as well.
VALIDATED
Navigation
Most of the users were follow our instructions and find the right menus and navigation elements.
VALIDATED
Event Creation
Two-thirds of people highlighted the event creation within the two most pleasant parts of the whole journey. You may find this prototype at the end of this case study as well.
FINETUNED
Stuck in the flow
Some of the people felt overwhelmed and frustrated, they even felt stuck sometimes. We have updated our interface based on those feedbacks and added navigational shortcuts.
FINETUNED
Copy & data
The analytics of the application that we offer to the employers was hardy understandable and sometimes contained pointless measures.
Last but not least, we wanted to create a cheerful mood and interface that feel good to use next to other corporate applications. We also wanted to make the design attractive for women and men as well.
Feel free to try out our event creation prototype!
